Farewell 2012

Here on this last day of 2012  we Aussies are enjoying our summer and thinking of New Years past, with moments of joy and transcendence lingering in our memories. I recall one walk in the rain forest of the Mount Royal ranges in Northern NSW, Australia. Nature and the brilliant parrots inspired the following poem.

Whoosh of wings  a flash of red and blue

rotting logs   a renaissance of moss

eucalyptus turpentine and sassafras

fragrance of wild mint herbs and violets

water gurgling over rocks

willy-wagtails dancing

in the golden glow

shining leaves a-tremble

in the treetops

and in a sudden hush

one fluffy cloud is weeping

glittering rain drops.

translucent orbs of wonder

magnified by the light

drifting slowly

one by one

rainbows in flight.

Happy New year, everyone.
